From the Rabbi

Shalom brethren!

In these tough times, we can find the best and most solid words in the scriptures. We can be reminded that believers throughout the ages have faced many difficult and perplexing times.

“But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellence of the power may be of God and not of us. We are hard-pressed on every side, yet not crushed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed—always carrying about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our bod.”

(2 Corinthians 4:7-10).

That does not necessarily make it easier for us, but, it can encourage us that our trials are not without precedent. Praying that each of us finds our strength in Messiah throughout these difficult days.

We will again have a “Drive-In” Shabbat service this coming Saturday, April 4, 2020. At the end of this email is information for those that would like to participate through GoToMeeting. There will be no Hebrew Honey class this Saturday.

Passover – We have creative plan. We are calling it our 2020 GoTo Passover Plan. The information is on our website. All our invited; please see website page here.

At Passover we celebrate our freedom from slavery in Egypt and more importantly our freedom from sin through Messiah Y’shua. This year we ask the Holy Spirit to also give us great freedom from fear during these troubled days.

Any questions please do not hesitate to contact us at 847-868-0195 or email at sanctuarymessianic@gmail.com.

Blessings in the always grace of Messiah.

Dear Sanctuary Messianic Community of Faith,

Shalom in the magnificent name of Messiah Y’shua.

We are clearly living in challenging times. They are also exciting times; we have this opportunity to live as lights in a dark time.  One of the things that has been a reflective point this week; fear begets fear, faith begets faith.  We want to be ones that beget faith and not fear.  We have made the decision to continue our regular Shabbat services.  Our decision and explanation are posted here: Rebbes Current Corner

We are a small yet precious band of brothers in Messiah Jesus.  Even if only a handful meet tomorrow; we are confident that even the smallest gathering of believers will be a blessing.

Though we have been a bit slow in posting the audio for our messages, we have been updating the smilingmaven website and are attempting to bring it up to date.  We are also looking into possible ways to ministering through “remote” technology.  On this note: we are receptive to some volunteer help with these types of resources.

We encourage you to read the article on our decision to meet, pray about joining us, but know that you are loved, and appreciated whatever you decide about meeting tomorrow.

Blessings in the incomparable King,

Art and Deb Weiner

Sanctuary Messianic

Shabbat March 21, 2020

Ministerial leaders throughout our country have been pressed and concerned about the decision whether to continue meetings during this unique time in our nation. We have talked with others, prayed, considered various viewpoints, and sought the Holy Spirit’s help for our precious community of faith. Our decision is to continue our Shabbat services including Hebrew Honey this weekend. Below are some significant points to consider in this decision.

• We do not view a congregation meeting as simply a social gathering. We are community public servants, Messiah’s public servants to others. Police, fire department, healthcare, etc., these continue in times of crisis. We believe that we are called to minister in times of crisis. Just like other public servants, who put themselves in potential harm’s way, especially during crisis, we recognize that we may be doing the same.

• We do not believe or want to convey that this is a better decision than those congregations that are choosing not to meet.

• If anyone has a need to visit healthcare during this time; (even if it is not related to the coronavirus), that visit can place them in a social setting that can be more susceptible to the transmission of the coronavirus. Some people may make decisions to put off some healthcare for this reason. We understand that some may decide not to attend Shabbat services for this reason. We honor and respect that decision. We encourage all our Sanctuary Messianic community to respect these types of decisions. There is no judgment or criticism for anyone and the choices that they make during this season.

• We believe that for those that are continuing to meet, it is important to communicate these types of decisions with other people with whom we may also have contact.

• We ask anyone attending Shabbat services to take extra care with handwashing and general hygiene concerns.

• Deb and I have prepared a personal ministry statement regarding this difficult time. Art and Deb Weiner – Response to Coronavirus

• If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us.

God’s Grace is always greater than we think it is!

Art and Deb Weiner – Response to Coronavirus

Deb and I have been discussing, praying, reading, and reflecting on the current situation in our country.

Sickness and disease are not ultimately or solely a scientific phenomenon. Sin, sickness, and disease have plagued our world since Adam and Eve’s initial walking away from God. Jesus died for mankind’s sin including disease. We recognize that not all sickness and disease is healed here on earth before Jesus’ second coming. However, the ministry of the gospel does bring healing to the human race. Sometimes, that includes healing through the medical and scientific community, sometimes it happens outside or independently of the medical and scientific community. The gospel message is a ministry of reconciliation that stands on its own merits at all times. Both Art and Deb are servants of this gospel. (2 Corinthians 5:11-21)

Our calling is to minister to people, to be vessels of grace, hope, and love – regardless of the potential cost to ourselves or to our own lives. (Philippians 1:19-24)

The Community of Faith is a “public ministry” that is needed in this uncertain season. This does not mean that we utterly ignore wise hygiene or extra precautions in this time. Yet, we are willing to minister, meet, pray with, and worship with whomever so will. We will visit the sick and minister to the sick. We are not looking to jump off into a sea full of patients with coronavirus just to be bold. Yet we do not want to have the door of our lives closed to ministering to people during this season. (Proverbs 2:6, 3:5, 3:21 Matthew 25:36, James 5:14)

We are convinced that there is a battle between faith and fear. Our nation and the world currently seem characterized by fear. “Perfect love casts out fear” (1 John 4:18). Faith and fear are essentially opposites. We are choosing to live in the gift of faith that we have for this season. (Romans 12:3)

Other people who also live by faith may be taking a different approach. We honor and respect their faith and their choice in this difficult season. (2 Peter 2:17)

We are communicating this to those who know us, are family, are part of Sanctuary Messianic, Agape, or read the Smiling Maven. We believe it is important to state this, both for those that would appreciate and want the contact with us at this time, and for those who would want to avoid contact with us as we walk in this matter in this season.

We also recognize that some adjustments and reconsiderations may be needed as circumstances continue to develop.

In the magnificent grace of Messiah Y’shua,

Art and Deb Weiner

שלום חסידים

שנה טובה

Shalom Chasidim,

Shanah Tovah!

Greetings saints (mercy or kindness do-ers)!

Happy New Year!  (literally “good year”)

We are starting the year and this Shabbat [01-04-2020] with a Hebrew Honey Shabbat class at 9:15 am.   A light breakfast will be served at 9:oo am.   Don Kurtz is cooking so it will be a delicious breakfast!

The class, open to all, will be a look at some Hebrew “honey” from the book of Ruth.   “Honey” being sweet and insightful understanding from the Hebrew in this short, but meaningful book of the Bible.   Everyone coming to the class is encouraged to learn the Hebrew alphabet.   We will take some class time, especially in January, to discuss and review the alphabet.

During our Shabbat service we will be continuing the series “Gems from Genesis”.   We are currently in Genesis 2 and taking some extra time with verse 9.   This may be one of the most important yet often overlooked and misunderstood verses in the scriptures.

Looking forward to a year of sweet and special fellowship with Messiah and with all the Sanctuary Messianic family.

In His grace,

SEPTEMBER – OCTOBER 2019

Celebrate! Celebrate! Celebrate!

It is the holiday season. This is the Jewish holiday season, starting with Feast of Trumpets (Rosh Hashanah) and going through to the last day of Sukkot (Feast of Tabernacles.)

We celebrate because we know the great atonement provided by Messiah Y’shua.

We celebrate that Messiah has broken down the middle wall of partition between Jews and Gentiles. We celebrate because of the wonderful unity at both Agape Gathering Place and Sanctuary Messianic Congregation. We celebrate the beautiful unity developing between the two congregations. We celebrate the beginning of the Fall Feasts together (Feast of Trumpets, September 29th) and we celebrate the final day of the Fall Feasts together (The Hoshana Rabbah, October 20). We encourage and invite others to join and celebrate with us this season.

We celebrate because the trumpet sounds – here on earth and in heaven. The trumpets announce the coming of the great harvest, the in-gathering of believers and the soon return of the King, Messiah Y’shua. Wow, we have a lot to celebrate.

The celebrations are listed on our website. Visitors are absolutely welcome!
